If I were 30 years younger, single, and living in Vegas, I’d seriously consider it.

Someone’s going to be disappointed when they land this job, then learn that Janet requires all passenger windows remain closed while in the Area 51 block*

*this is probably true

I was just thinking that, even though you are landing there, you’re not going to see anything of any interest. And you’re probably right about the shades.

You know, when I first began reading the listing, I sort of felt it was an opening for a pilot and that they’d offer training (I know, I know lol), then I got disappointed.

I was going to be like “hell yeah, career change baby!”

How about TED? A regional partner of United Airlines. We can’t beat you up because a CRJ is just too small to take a swing.

Hmm, it seems like the posting is already gone? I’m with you - if I was 20 and looking for something off the beaten path, I’d apply.

Yeah, gone. I did some searching on their jobs site, though. There are some very interesting positions available with that company, many of which require top secret clearance.

They’re actually using NGs these days, -600s to be precise. Not the most efficient of the NGs so that can be had for a song.

This reminds me, there was an interesting flight at the air base/airport (Westover) a while back. Passenger jet, 90% sure it was a 737. White, no markings aside from the tail number and an American flag. It was parked at the passenger terminal (I suspect only because that’s where the stairs are) and was in the process of boarding. There was a security guard on the short entrance road to the terminal and he was denying access to the terminal and its parking lot to anyone not getting on that flight. The terminal is a small single story building with no regular commercial flights and is usually only used for charters, so this wasn’t super extreme, but it was definitely unusual. I would have thought it to be a Janet flight if not for the lack of the red stripe. Have you ever heard of/seen a plane like this?

Most generic looking 737 ever. I bet the onboard catering sucks.

I kind of like it for its plainness. TIL that the red line, and those like it, is called a “cheat line.” Still not sure why.

cribbed from somewhere on the interwebs - A “cheat line” is so-called because it was discovered that a horizontal stripe (or stripes) running the length of the fuselage would “cheat” the viewer into seeing an airliner appear to be longer (i.e. larger) and faster. It came into common use at the dawn of the jet age, when “faster and bigger” (or the perception thereof) were major marketing advantages for the regulated airlines.

Not that long ago I saw photos of a 737-200 in plain white livery which I believe was flying the same mission. This one is my fav for all-time weird looking test aircraft.

I had done a little poking around about cheat lines, and I think you and I read the same thread. That makes as much sense as anything. I’m reminded of this DC-5 that was painted to make it look smaller. This was the prototype DC-5, and was Bill Boeing’s personal aircraft, named Rover .

Did it look like this? This is an Air Force C-40. As to the armed guard, I’ve never seen anything like that, and searches of “plain white 737" only turn up articles about Janet.

Is that the actual airplane? Xtra Airways?

Kinja'd!!! Dusty Ventures > ttyymmnn
01/16/2018 at 11:35

Yep, I got the tail number this time. The Xtra Airways text is gone, the American flag is bigger, and it has a blue stripe (which I don’t remember from last time but can’t guarantee wasn’t there). This is what it looks like now.

Kinja'd!!!

Other photo results from the tail number are particularly interesting.

As a charter company, it probably behooves them to just keep the planes white. No idea about the armed guards, though. Just some VIP, I suppose.
